Don't you wish you had friends like this?.................... that was from bill shipp on an email to me.... standing there with our bud, steve pax in san luis obsipo, both with their custom Ken Hillebert built fenders.... but, my time to join them will come someday soon as we are still being rewarded with "summertime, festivals and simple pleasures" which in turn is the theme of the show today.... lots of summertime music, previews of performers coming to the strawberry music festival and the millpond music festival.... it will all be more than a grand time, especially when you get to enjoy it with friends... which is kinda the way i look at doing the Juke Joint... come on over, set in my living room a while and enjoy.. kinda like summertime, festivals and other simple pleasures..... have a good time folks and share the wonder, spirit and love of good friendships, wherever they may be.... lator-gators---- jim
Sometimes i just wonder....
so then, i pull out a few old albums, start thinking about beauty and get the first set, so that the radio show is off and runnin'... and, then i recall that i gotta let folks know about an upcoming event, and off i go tangenting.... only later to realize, that I really do have to pay tribute to the wildland firefighters doing some mighty dangerous and important work (heck, i use to be a mendocino hot shot, with the little dalton canyon helijumpers, and did a stint with the Bighorn Inter-regional Hotshot crew outta Greybull, Wyoming -- so my heart goes out to em' on the line) anyways, back to the remainder of the show i go.... just wondering... and somehow it all comes together (see playlist) just in time for the scheduled airplay thankx to the wonderful crew back at the station who make it really happen.... and the, off i go again.... just a wondering.... have a great weekend and week, ya'all.
JIMBOS JUKE JOINT & ACOUSTIC ROADHOUSE CAFE - WWW.KUNR.ORG - SAT 3 - 5pm pst
"Hot August Nights already?? or time to go cruzin!!"
If i only had a ride.... just down that long lonesome highway.... it don't matter where, but with the radio blastin', shades on, and arm around a sweet one.... oh life could be so grand... no hobo stylin', just straight ahead into the sunrise up into the mountains or across the desert... just a wishin', a dreamin', a hopin' that it all works out.... for the better, for all of us... just ride those airwaves to that land far, far away called home... it's a stretch but we can do it....
"them mountains, a place to call home and a James Wilson tribute"
in honor of a very special person who we will miss greatly.... and, just maybe the music will help us along our way only to attempt to follow in such grand and great footsteps....
"CRYIN' TIME, CRY BABIES, AND MORE or JUST ANOTHER SATURDAY IN PARADISE"
Oh yeah, what can i say... we think we got the world by the tail and draggin' ourselves around like there's no tomorrow.... cryin', hope-in' and wonderin' about all that hits us on a daily basis... yeah, we gots it good. compared to so many others.. and yet we cry a waterfall of the piddleyist of little things. And, yet there are some things that just bring us to tears... as of late, i have been thinkin' about such monumental tragedies of life that hit us hard, or maybe sucker punch us away, or the ones that are so subtle that they hit the senses beyond touch, feel or composure.... so, with rose in hand (or mouth) i reach out today to comfort all cry-ers, big babies (like me) and also to those hurt, mishandled and unaligned in the life we lead... yes, it's cryin' time on the juke joint and in life, love and the pursuit of happiness...... cheers to all and remember to once in a while wash them hankies.... lator gators...
Show me the metal...
todays show shouts out to the blacksmith, pipeliners, machinists, metal workers and iron ore patrons that are paid tribute to in song.. steel drivin john henry-ish hammer thumpin' folks who give us the metal of life. To them we owe great thankx for the grand things they have shaped, built and forged into our lives... thankx to you ore delivering contributors and radio supporters... lator friends.

Dream on..
If I owned a bar the radio be a blasting away and I would be pouring tunes out like fine tequila, the sipping kind -- the kind that pulverizes your thoughts as yer tongue begins to twist and turns like an old 78 while awashing the ears like puckered lips ablaze in the hot sauce of life.... oh yes children, grand music awaits... so come on down to the juke joint and linger awhile.... from pinball wizards to journeys through the past we will barfly the afternoon away along with Django and Jimmie, as well as strolling musicians pouring and pounding chords down
.. it will be a fine swill of delights... cheers..
Trees, Wood & Carpenters
From the thoughts of cutting rough slab maple for guitars with my brother phil in new brunswick, to the tall pines of the sierra that fill my mind on the return from last weeks romp at the strawberry music fest, I delve into trees on the hill, woodshops and carpenter haunts on the show this saturday... Its kinda a gum tree canoe day with dawgwood a blooming while strange on the range woodworking and thinkin' that if i were a carpenter like grandpa was i might be able to do the redwood waltz.. so with choppin' wood and listening to van the man morrison, i will be thinking of that maple tree, the ghost tree, and the maplewood. And i will go back to climbing trees and norwegian wood... If that doesn't suffice for the playlist, then i will remain up a tree my little carpenter... And, thankx to the tall trees and kates wolfs reminder of the "sweet smell of pines"... you all be well and enjoy... lator - jim

Lator gators......
"THAT TIME OF YEAR..... & ARMED FORCES DAY... & MUCH MORE"
Rain came a pouring down today, which made it a good day to clean (or was it putz) around the studio... so much to do this time of the year (catch the first set with these days, call it a loan, take it easy and the pretender) and lots to think about, with armed forces day upon us (so it goes second set: soldiers, lovers & dreamers.... etc., etc. and on fading into the other lator sets to include great tunes like thanks alot, everybody wants to feel like you, angel flight, not that simple, and long may you run.... etc., etc..)
Anyways, it was time to get back on track... get that vintage kenwood turntable spinnin' again...... and my first by chance pick outta the old vinyl storage center was mr. mickey newberry's, "i came to hear the music" LP.... what a score, and fat chance as luck would have it..... but next pick of the litter was mr. john sebastian (also by an even phatter chance, since there is no rhyme reason or dewey point system to my LP filing or life in general for that matter) who started to get me a thinkin' bout old friends and tie dye times .....
Then the rain drifted away, life moved back on track, and i did manage to get a little cleaning done, even if it was all in my head.... So really "shine on" friends and enjoy the music.. and i will while away this precious time and continue to commence to drain and clean up the swamp .. lator-gators!
Mother's and Strawberry... and the tiki..
there is a tiki god (with feet, cigar and beer opener) at my good friend, greg lawman lawson's house, that needed a true baptism the other day greeted by it's first pabst.... it was almost a great basin icky, but those precious resources are saved for another day with the amigos band... poppin' the pabst got me to thinkin' 'bout mom and what to do on mothers day.... i mean i've been called a "mother or two" at various times, i'm sure of.... but what to do.... my momma's gone, rest her lovin' soul, but she's always with me in spirit and even in the music i play... why she really got me started, although dad would once in a chalky blue moon bring out the harmonica and wail an old country, folk or gospel tune in his underwear...... But, mom was the sure-fire spark-plug for my music interest.... pullin' out the old 78's. rambling through the cardboard containers and sandpaper sleeves... reading liner notes, imagining the delivery and creative force behind the production and so, so much more... From getting me to sing with Dean, "that's a'more" to her love of the Band's "Acadian Driftwood (which i sure reminded her of our homeland and family so distant) she provided the cornerstone for my involvement and love of music.... ThankX mom and ThankX strawberry music festival for it's sphere and share of influence... as in today's show..... lator-gators, keep the faith and blessings on you all....
Unsustainable traveler and Lefty Lou....

I See It In YOu.... 'bout Jimbos Juke Joint today @ 3pm PST KUNR.org
It is one of those days in wonderland. a little grey in the morning and a thinkin' how lucky can one get.... but then the struggles arise, the tides lift and the music comes a bobblin' in.... so with today's show starting with joe ely (I saw it in You) and ending with chet atkins & mark Knopfler (I'll see you in my dreams) its a neck and neck viewpoint and a journey through the past. With you ain't going nowhere through wild montana skies over and over and a clip of too many nights in a roadhouse. but I'll be there susie Q with the beauty of you when the silver threads are gold sweet baby james. just a sampler of thoughts tied into the music today on the juke joint as life goes on and i hum the hobo song to yard work and thinking of pokey lafarge and his title about "when did you leave heaven" to carolina in the pines and i'm just a mortal man..... it's all in the playlist of life, love, caring and further beyond these typos...... lator-gators -- jim

From take me out to the ball game and you've got to have heart there is nothing like a double header or five-nothing lead unless your the pride of niles centerfield (thankx 2 michael mcnevin). but, once again from april to october glory days and laughing rivers arise for those that wanna be a baseball star, and may you be a hero or bum with a wife who hates baseball or casey at bat, you will still be writing letters in the dirt with brodsky until you've got to hit the right lick in the real game on opening day.... it don't matter where you are when the star spangled banner flies, you in. and tangled with popcorn, beers, kids and gloves and those fond well placed memories of yester-years...... enjoy the show and lator gators.....
To the "Guitar People" or "my people's"
it is a day, today that is, for those very special folks.... the one's who build and repair those specialized grains of tonal wood dedicated to enhancing the hearts of so many.... the grand makers and healers of that trusted by so many instrument, the guitar..... more than just a fashion-able stylish sidekick of so many musicians, this humble and honorable instrument seeks out the beauty of nature in its primal tones and when supplemented by a trusted sidekick who finds focus in the harmonic stretch of strings bringing to life more than just the sounds of silence. those individuals deserve praise and thanks for their honest and caring endeavors..... so from me and my guitar, through daddy frank and kate's guitar, as well as this old guitar and me, a venture takes place to today with the guitar tribute... this one's for all of em.... ken hellebert, pat mcgrath, michael lewis, fred walecki, and ben wilborn, just to name a few..... a heartfelt thankX!!
Membership, Spring and the rest of it.....
So away we venture today with a beginner of nobody knows my trouble by ryan bingham, to wichita, a new deal and stone blind horses by ray wylie hubbard for starters.. that outta the gate to the spring membership drive for public radio..... call toll fee 844-KUNR-887 or give online at KUNR.org..... what a deal... comparin' to satellite radio, web radios and other broken turntables of life..... makes you wonder... for example there are these programmed push a button let the software run the shuffle kinds of radio/web services out there makin' us real live find what we want to play DJ's maybe obsolete..... kinda like there's not enough life music venues out there syndrome.... oh well, more on that lator.... but i've got to put my two cents in for public radio and maybe more than just two.... it has been there for many an artist and, as well, for many a listener.... what a deal... as i ride into the pledge now sunset holdin' my bumper sticker up high and thankin' you all most appreciatively from the depths of my heart for support for such an amazing medium.... lator - gators ----- jim
