There is something to be said about listening... no matter that I speak far too often..... I over take conversation... I'm a nerd... I'm a jerk.. I can be cool... i can be friendly... I can be entertaining, but most of all I'm just a quiet kind of guy... really I like to think, meditate, contemplate, coagulate... i don't know anything about all those kinds of things... but seriously. .. i am using that word a lot these days.. seriously folks, what else can you expect ... I mean that's what you kind of expect from a quiet guy... well I think I'm a quiet guy, who likes to play music, share with my friends.. diggin deep, listenin' a lot, and sharing. I'm no great orator or even radio persona.. I'm just me playing music like in your living room.... buddy, friend, or come-pod-rey and I hope you enjoy it especially this week the first "rocket" set, then off to the moon and stars... all in the first hour...... and, then off to Octoberfest within the Juke Joint .... yes it's beer songs and more beer songs and beer songs....... toasting to the beer world of music, which is a great world despite all the trouble and things going on these days and in worrisome ways.... sometimes it's such music that gets us through the day... and which is why I play such content and "stuff' on the radio and also because I care... And, I hope you do too... so have a great weekend and without further ado, thanks again for giving a listen to Public Radio or reading this smattering of blogging here......, A big O thanks again for the listens on www.kunr.org at 3pm on Saturdays at KUNR FM..... that really mean a lot... later - gators ....
Harvest time once again..
A bog-O thankx to my sister Louise for the great pie picture posted on facebook today.... which reminds me today I gotta put out my blog and the fact that Jimbo's juke joint and acoustic Roadhouse Cafe is doing up a Harvest theme about harvesting, the farmer, and tractors, and other such items.... anyways it should be a good show and it's perfect for this time of year, following the risky biscuit hayseed hoot on KUNR and what a great show going on today Don Daru.... so I'm going to have to post this pretty quick that people might remember that there's a juke joint following Don's great show ... and you all get ready for the harvest, bringin' the rest of the tomatoes in, canning, pulling the last of the plums down and getting ready for the seasons to collide, change and "set the woods afire - with all the colors they can muster"... so hope those that listen enjoy and have a grand week ahead.... lator - gators... the juke joint is on PST from 3 - 5 on www.KUNR.org
"september, fall and all"

Later Gators ...
it's about time for a more than belated post..... and gettin' ready for Millpond..
been busy this summer, with life, loves and the backyard, etc., etc.... no excuse but now i gots to get ready for Millpond and so very app-A-pro include a full set and more of the upcoming musicians and bands playing at Millpond Music Festival in Bishop next week...... and, yet still manage to slip in some brand new Dwight Yoakam, songs bout gold and california and much more. As it is a pleasure to do the Juke Joint and a constructive struggle to get everything else done in life.... it feels as though it takes twice as long to get anything done these days and three time as long to think about getting it done..... such is life moving on, but we survive with good friends and good times...... so a BIG thankX to those tuning in to the Juke Joint and the music played there.... much obliged and more........

Guy Clark Tribute - he worked on guitars and wrote songs....
The Juke Joint today brings forth a tribute, as a backdrop to the many tributes going on, about Guy Clark who moved on to the songwriters great paradise and pickin' party.... I really don't say a whole lot in the show because I did the show last tuesday evening, the day he went on that final poetic voyage... but he meant a lot to me, certainly helping my guitar work and most caringly treated me squarely and fairly... He was an all-around gruffy decent crazy kind of "guy".. I can remember in Fallon trying to stay up all party night after his concert that he did with Townes Van Zandt Robert Earl Keen and Ramblin Jack Elliott who showed up at the last minute of intermission. The concert almost ran over our time limit andwe're supposed to be out by 1 o'clock, just barely packin' it out of the concert in time and off to the party which had moved on to a private residence.. ( I won't go into specifics but there's a road named after those folks in Fallon and the art, the beverages and the chatter and music flowed most graciously --- thankx to val and all participants).... anyways i remember we were sitting on the porch gabbin away about the days event and then ending up in the kitchen as all good parties do... you know the kitchen party routine and guy was in rare form and it went on the wee hours of the morning... I think I slept in my vw vanagon that early morn and do remember about 4 in the morning watering rose bushes with guy and tryin' not to fall in em' while laughing and commenting on the universe at large and the fallon stars....
so todays show goes out to Guy Clark with a lot covers of his songs a few by others and a mix of Guy singin' some..... so i picks a few of the songs that an impact on me..... as I remember driving across the country with a cassette or two in my old international listening to Jerry Jeff worker and Guy Clark songs during the summer driving back and forth across the US, going up to Canada... the ones that get close to my heart and head.... well Guy we are truly going to miss you and hope hope you're listening in, "old friend" ...
Lator - Gators.... 3-5pm KUNR & KNCC FM or www.kunr.org
PS.... there is a great story from a friend, Peter Figen who is an outstanding photographer and was in Fallon that night.... here is one of his shots and a link to his site: http://www.peterfigen.com/blog/2016/5/4/townes-van-zandt-and-guy-clark

lator gators...
Into april, ukes, hank and such...
So I sit here listenin' to the outstanding annual start of baseball season show, by Don "Dondo" Darue from the Risky Biscuit Hayseed Hoot which airs on saturdays on KUNR from 1 to 3... and just thinkin' how wonderful it is and the fact that he has been doin' it for a long time and how public radio gave him the flexibility to really make it shine..... I mean, i can remember commercial radio and don as a frustrated pup... well not really, because he always stretched the rules, stole a few bases and, as always, hit home runs...... thankX to you don, you make radio sound great again.... so cool and love you bro..... and, in the past i've done opening day shows and beyond, and people have requested copies, but this year, Don's got it more than covered.... ok, i'm gonna do one reckless kelly song 'bout bball, but will hit on april, ukes, hank and such..... well just because.... i got a comment 'bout how i didn't mention easter last week.... well in reply, i guess i'm non de-nom-in-national kind... no easter eggs this year, but i will stretch a few baseball tunes in over the season, and will avoid political quag-mires and such.... the old john stewart line in the song reminds me.... "i got a church right here inside me and suites me quite alright", while in the background the baptist choir is singin' "glory, glory alleh-lul-ya!!! yup, glory glory hal-lay-u-la!!!
Just love the fact that radio can transport you way to infinity and beyond... so enjoy listenin', as i do to the po-purr-rea of eclectic rootsy americana folk blues talk-a-billy,,,, as its all good.. and, as alway, thankX in advance for the listen... greatly appreciated, as I am to be on the airwaves, specially following the great "risky buscuit" man and everyone else on the stations program... way fun...... juke joint time 3 to 5 pm KUNR.org or KUNR fm in reno, and KNCC in elko....
We be a bit of the Irish today...
Yup, I thought I'd get a jump on st. Patrick's Day coming up this week... so I put together an "North Americana Rootsy Irish" mix for the first set and then threw in a little bit more of the "Luck of the Land of the Irish" on the 2nd hour should be a good show.... got a little traditional mix going on and who knows what else... it's been a fun week for me with my birthday and related happenings, anyways it brings up but the next birthday celbration for me, which is st. Patty's day (my middle name is in honor of that wild saint).... So, I hope everyone has a safe and sane st. Patty's Day out there.... and, enjoy the show if you can... that's Jimbo's juke joint and Acoustic Roadhouse Cafe, Saturdays at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on KUNT FM Reno Nevada and KNCC FM in Elko Nevada, and also on the world wide webbie there at KUNR.org Later Gators
Juke joint time at 3pm
well I'm stuck here in Palm Springs at a ukulele festival ......but none the less.. kunr will broadcast the juke joint at 3pm... and the reno uke fest is coming to reno in april... maybe I ought to git the t shirt in advance.....
Foolin' 'Round -- in these tumult-u-ous times...
while hanging aroundthis morning, I was listening to some old seldom scene traditional kind of music that brought me home to a place which made me think about all these things going on in our lives... you know, and yet some people seem to think that elections and coverage of elections is the most important thing in our lives right now... and it maybe... I don't know... but it made me contemplate about how in the grand scheme of things that coverage of Elections is quite frivolous with back and forth chatter, the "late breaking news", pun-dents and etc., etc.... it goes on and on with candidates not really significantly speaking to issues, concerns and the like.... heck it is one rally cry after another and a promise upon promise the cannot be applied or kept...... so that is why I spin my recordsand try to stay A-political and A-religious to have my radio play or say... I mean, I just don't know alot and I don't have all the answers, and I don't want to throw my thoughts out on someone else's, or give an opinion that has no meaning but to myself..... so I often recall the old John Stewart song, where he says " I got a church right here inside me.. suits me quite alright..." and then, in the background you can hear the choir girls singing slowly "glory, glory, hallelujah, i have seen the light" in a beautiful Baptist kinda Southern style... John, if you were alive now what would you say... he was with the old campaigner on that "mohther country" train with Bobby Kennedy, and gave it his all... there that night when Bobby got shot.. it affected him as it hurt all of us back then..... I now think about politics and a different light for some reason, having seen what happened of the years and to the challenges and the perseverance of people over I'll kinds of diversity.... it is amazing and is really what counts... just as music counts... it affects us, cleanses us, heals us and helps us focus on what matters to each of us.... so hope you enjoy today's Juke Joint show..... www.kunr.org 3pm PST ti 5pm..... hang in there gators -- lator -- jim
Friends, old friends and so much more....
yeah, when you think about it... we got family, we have friends.... sometimes friends are family or vice-versa... where am I going with this, well you know this week Facebook had a thing about friends day... so got me to thinking I haven't done a friendly kind of show in a while, or something about friends, so when I went armed with my trusty library of songs and pulled out every kind of song about friends, old friends, and also songs played with friends, and ended up with who knows what else.... it's just a joy to do that kind of stuff and makes me think as I just got back from Cuba and travel with some really good friends, Steve and Linda Pax, and what a great time we had.. Both Crystal and I, and just the whole experience was was wonderful to share with friends.... and maybe that's what we do through life... for sharing our lives with friends, family, and loved ones.... anyways its grand to share songs with you friends.. and hope you enjoy... going to be a kind of good show on a sunny day today but maybe the song about old friends will also warm you up a bit to make a phone call and say hello old friend, how you doing or something along that line....
hope you get to tune in to the juke joint on kunr.org every Saturday from 3 to 5... kunr reno and kncc elko... thanks folks and see you down the road

"TO DAVID & MARTIN & FREEDOM & JUSTICE"
i was thinkin' 'bout last year and where i was about this time (anza borrego desert camping with my son) while I'm laying aound... i'm just icing my arm on my shoulder, since I broke a bone up there and an elbow while skydiving off a ladder onto some really hard cement while getting the house prepared for the advancing el nino (as well as, to surprise my loved one)... anyways, the recovery is painful and i've got to bear down on physical therapy and get results... so anyways, as i ice up, I'm sitting here thinking I've got some shows in the can, because despite this arduous recovery, I'm headed to Cuba in a week.. i have three weeks of shows to kind of put together.. etc.,etc... the Martin Luther King weekend, the following weekend, and the following, because you never know.. that's three shows ,6 hours of music on air, 2 hours per show to do some research and related tangents, another couple of hours to put it together and that's a lot of time in my week.. but what is time anyway.. there a lot to do before I go.. I guess you know I've been doing this a long time, but i am point man of procrastination.. been doin' it almost as as long as the crazy baldhead, Mr Don Daru... well maybe not quite, but he was on the radio way back when I was just a young punk moving into Reno.. picking up the vibe getting on as a host for folk bluegrass and beyond at KUNR.. with some really good folks and having some good times.. there's some people still around like Eric Swansick and his cowboys theme.. good memories, and there's so many people you meet in music and doing this kind of gig.. though you know, I kinda wish I could meet each and every one that really enjoys the show, cares about it, and keeps me posted now and then.. a big thanks for that and I try to keep up with it all.. it's not an onslaught of things, but you got your daily life... so back to when I think of all the hours I gotta put it in before I go to Cuba in Miami and points beyond and packing and all the other things about life in between.. what does matter and what's important, as i pull forward to I get the music together, get those shows online, and get KUNR the content to play.. because I would like to be there, and also to be out in the audience listening.. the connection with you all.. yeah that's the thing about radio, because you get stuck behind a mic, or tucked into your little voice of trying to put the music together, you just don't get enough contact with those digging the music.. they're groovin' in the sound, maybe sometimes dancing along or adding something to their day, hopefully giving them some thought for things that they may need to do or have contemplated on... I want to do music that does that to me, and refreshes my mind, gets me going, helps me through my day, and on my way..... so with that, I'll be on my way.. wishing you all the great music and love that I can possibly share through dis funky little radio show called Jimbo's Juke Joint & Acoustic Roadhouse Cafe, on kUNR FM, Reno and KNCC FM, Elko thanks folks for give me a listen, and I'll see you down the road... Lator-Gators

Don't it feel like Christmas
When I was about eight or thereabouts, I wrote a poem that i was so proud of.. it went like this:
don't it feel like Christmas in the summer and in the spring don't it feel like Christmas every time you do a good thing ....
and i'm sure there was more... but those first few lines were ingrained in my memory throughout the many years. i guess by now its part of the foundation of my spirit in this holiday season. and, as I think about the times were living in it helps to share such experiences.. kinda like the great tradition that my friends, Scott and Stacey Fitzpatrick have established as a seasonal ritual (they not only do christmas, but st patty's day and any such festivity that calls for singin' and partyin') Last night, they once again gathered friends and an assortment of music teachers together for food, libations and the singing of Christmas songs.. what grand good Christmas cheer sharing the spirit together.. also the teachers were exceptionally lively and really glad that they were there off work this being their last school day and assorted related event accomplished (ie: chior, asseblies, performances, etc., etc.) they really let their hair down... oh to share that feeling...
so this week, we venture to share the spirit at Roadhouse cafe by hanging out with friends and hopefully putting a smile on your face and possibly sharing that smile and all that good love at this time of the year.... so with that being said I'll sign off here with the wishing you happy holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah... as well as -- Lator Gators
As luck will have it
sometimes you just get lucky... and last night was one of those nights.. ran into Patrick Quilter, the amazing truly eclectic fellow of designeer fame (Quilerlabs, amps,QCS Audio Products).. anyways, he is just an amazing musician as well, playing his vintage dual lap steel in the Dagger go-to bar at Don the Beachcomber (http://www.donthebeachcomber.com/) with this young virtuoso kind of Dick Dale guitarist with this name-dropping surf band behind them... it absolutely sl;ayed me and everyone attending the other grand Tiki Room concert with Moonsville Collective,Dead Winter Carpenters and Sam Outlaw, all who also performed just extraodinarily... it just made me realize again that supporting live music and being part of that whole environment is so important.. I just wanted a night out to clearmy spirits with all the kinds of worldly things going on.. I was able to drift away and leave the 24 hour continue-us news cast disruption to my life, and the worrisome name calling dribble of bullshit, or whatever you want to call it (politics)... And, I was able to get lost in the music,, with some good friends, and spend time with them sitting at our table enjoying music, new people and the surroundings while taking a break whenever we could to run out to the bar room to hear such additional extraordinary sounds.. we were all in a little spaceship of time innoculating ourselves from other dramas and true tragedy.. I laughingly remember weeks before chatting with Joe Ely there, and his entertaing and vivid comment while sipping our beers and he chucked, "well, I've never played a real tiki bar before, and this was an eventful first"..
so here i go with one of my little lively rants, for us to get out now and then, and get away from that TV tube, the troubles in our minds, or whatever going on in the world and just getting off that couch and going out and seeing some live music... and maybe put a little something in the tip jar (christmas token or whatever encouragement) and supporting live music... because there's character out there, and it sure will possibly liven' your spirits.. it's a wonderful opportunity and a great time at we live in.. we just gotta remember the good things and cherish those and keep them coming so that with the spirit of Christmas and everything else, we can shine on and do the good work we need to do...
i should mention that today shows going to be kind of a jingle jangle pre-christmas bangle out there for you on kunr.org.. kind of threw it together n hopes of getting ready for the season and for sure next week I'll be more subdued with additional thoughts of a mistle-toe and other such delights.. but meanwhile, thanks a lot for giving a read here and when you get a chance to listen to the juke joint & acoustic roadhouse cafe @ kunr.org. most graciously appreciate ----- later Gators
It's a wonderland out there
you bet that it's a wonderland out there... and now, when I think of greatness, along the line of outstanding trios like the Jimi Hendrix crew, or the supergroup known as the cream, AND CSN... i now add to the play,e Carolyn Wonderland and her mates.. singin' and playin' high-performance guitar and lap steel combined with keyboards and kit drums, you now have an unpretentious super power of beyond blues and rock and psy-co-delic phenomin-ah.. i was in awe of her incredible angelic sweetheart and devilish vocal strengths that switchblade in heartfelt blast of nuclear power to match her extro-ordinary guitarship mastery... at the museum last night, she captured the audience and took all soraing with her complete range of emotional artistry.. we, stunned kids in the candy shop, drooling with delight to every stacatto and octaval note, blending with the penetrating rhyme of her guitar and to the compliment of the stellar accomplices pulsating to subliminal chordal phrases.. just spectacular... so if you get a chance and Wonderland comes to your neighborhood take full advantage and see her live, although, don't hesitate to download or buy her product because she is the real spirit of misical gratness and spirit..
